CHAPTER TEN

When Eloise woke up from her nap, Papa was there immediately. After he lowered the railing for her bed, he kissed all over her face, making her giggle. She was glad because it made the next several minutes less awkward.

He lifted her from the bed, carried her to the changing table, and cleaned her up without saying anything or making a fuss about it.

Eloise held her breath. She was naked. It should have been awkward, but he didn’t let it be. The strap he’d used to secure her waist to the table made her insides flip around, and she couldn’t stop herself from lifting her hands to cover her breasts.

Her nipples were hard points. If he noticed she was wet between her legs, he didn’t say anything. As soon as he discarded her diaper and the wipes, he met her gaze. “Another diaper or panties, sweet girl?”

“Panties, Papa,” she murmured. It was one thing to nap in a diaper. She wasn’t ready to waddle around their home in one.

Papa unfastened the strap and lifted her off the table, setting her naked body on her feet before helping her into a pair of panties, her leggings, and lastly, her dress. He smiled when he was finished. “There.” He lifted her off the floor by the waist so she was flattened against his chest eye to eye. “Thank you for letting me take care of you, sweet girl. I know that was hard. It means the world to me.”

She cupped his face and smiled at him. “Thank you, Papa.”

He lowered her to her feet and took her hand. “How about some lunch?”

“Where’s Daddy?”

“Sleeping.” He put a finger to his lips as they stepped into the hall and didn’t speak again until they were in the kitchen. “He has to work tonight. He’ll sleep until I leave for work and then spend the evening with you.”

She frowned. “That’s not enough sleep.”

“Yeah. Normally, he’ll sleep most of the morning, but today he wanted to be with you for the assessment testing.”

“Oh.” The funny butterflies in her tummy returned, flipping around at the thought of Master Rhodes forgoing sleep to be with her for something as important as this morning. She’d never had anyone do something that kind for her.

She was quiet as Papa lifted her into the highchair, fastened her, and locked the tray into place. The next thing he did was bring her sticker chart over and the row of colorful star stickers.

“We were so proud of you for being brave this morning and for taking a risk and letting us care for you before your nap. I know both of those things took courage. You didn’t complain once. You deserve five stickers. Would you like to put them on the chart?”

She grinned as he peeled them off one at a time and handed them to her. She felt an odd sense of pride. She’d been good. She’d gotten rewarded. Papa and Daddy were happy.

What would happen when she misbehaved though? Would they be mad and grow tired of her antics? Maybe she could be good.
